About LiveWire Asheville
LiveWire grew out of an idea by Charlie Flynn-McIver, Artistic Director of NC Stage Company, to find a better way to market the performing arts in Asheville. In 2007, a two-year $50,000 grant was awarded to NC Stage Company to support the effort. The purpose of the project was to create a single identity—a brand—for Asheville’s myriad of performing arts offerings, venues and organizations. In short, the goal was to make it easier for entertainment seekers, tourists and residents alike, to participate in Asheville’s rich cultural scene, thereby increasing audiences and economic impact.
A project steering committee, representing key performing arts groups, was organized in 2007. In partnership with Market Connections, a local and highly regarded marketing company, the project conducted focus groups for two major constituencies: 1) members of performing arts audiences and 2) performers and presenters. Information from the sessions produced a vivid profile of the local cultural scene and led to the “LiveWire” brand identity and the choice of a dynamic website as the vehicle for a successful project.
Currently, the LiveWire website represents a diverse group of 65 local arts organizations. Ultimately, the goal is to showcase every live performance event taking place in Asheville.
